The 442’s

September 15 2023, Friday, 7:30p.m.

Combining three members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and three of the region’s finest jazz musicians, The 442s are a genre-defying acoustic sextet breaking down barriers between jazz, classical, folk and pop music. Brought together by the innovative compositions of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Adam Maness, The 442s features Shawn Weil on violin, Shannon Williams on viola, Bjorn Ranheim on cello, Bob DeBoo on bass and Kaleb Kirby on drums. A beacon of the St. Louis music scene for over a decade, The 442s will perform music from their newest album, “Aim To Please”.

Arianna String Quartet

The Arianna String Quartet has firmly established itself as one of America's finest chamber ensembles. Their performances have been described as “radiant from the first moment,” (A.M. News, Léon, Mexico) with “emotional commitment, fluent virtuosity, and poetic vision” (Pretoria News, South Africa). The Arianna String Quartet is celebrating 22 years of performing for the ECC community. Pianist Jennifer Judd will join the quartet performing Piano Quintet No. 1 by Ernst von Dohnányi.

Christine Brewer

Christine Brewer, named one of the top 20 sopranos of all time (BBC Music), is one of the most celebrated concert singers of our time. Grammy Award-winning American soprano Christine Brewer’s appearances in opera, concert, and recital are marked by her own unique timbre, at once warm and brilliant, combined with a vibrant personality and emotional honesty reminiscent of the great sopranos of the past.

 

 

St Louis Wind Symphony

November 17, 2023, Friday, 7:30p.m.

Established in 1998, the Wind Symphony is a 65-member ensemble mostly consists of current and former music educators. The Wind Symphony is dedicated to preserving and performing quality wind band music. This concert will also feature violinist Julia Sakharova performing Theme from Schindler’s List by John Williams and Czardas by Monti.

Halen, Ranheim and Judd in Concert

January 26, 2024, Friday, 7:30p.m.

A beloved staple of the East Central Concert Series, we are thrilled to welcome back St. Louis Symphony Orchestra concertmaster David Halen and acclaimed SLSO cellist Bjorn Ranheim with pianist Jennifer Judd will perform works by Mozart and Mendelssohn.

 

 

Kyo-Shin-An Arts and Arianna String Quartet

March 8, 2024,  Friday, 7:30p.m.

The Arianna Quartet joins forces with Shakuhachi Grand Master James Nyoraku Schlefer and Koto and Shamisen Masters Sumie Kaneko and Yoko Reikano Kimura, as Kyo-Shin-An Arts makes its first appearance at East Central College, promising a memorable evening of music-making with the ASQ.  This unique concert fuses the ancient traditions of Japanese instrumentation with Western classical music’s string quartet, producing an experience that forges new frontiers in music, and provides audiences with a once in a lifetime concert experience.

Early Music Missouri: The Intimate Brandenburgs

April 5, 2024, Friday, 7:30p.m.

Early Music Missouri presents “The Intimate Brandenburgs,” a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerti 4 & 5. Just as musically complex and exciting as the larger works in this collection, these two concerti feature small ensembles with only three solo instruments. Featuring Baroque violins, recorders, Baroque flute and harpsichord, the ensemble will offer entertaining and ear-opening versions of these masterworks. In addition, East Central College Choir will join the EMMo period instrumentalists to sing one of Bach’s famous chorales from his cantatas.

 

 

Jazz Festival Concert: Soul Café

Soul Café was founded in 1998. Soul Café has played at the Chesterfield Jazz Festival, Wine Dine Jazz Fest as the headliner for three years, The Wildey Theatre, The Webster Jazz and Blues Fest, St. Louis Art Fair, Clayton Art Fair, The Ozark Theatre, BB’s Jazz & Blues.

Early Music Missouri- String Music from the French Court

Friday, September 29, 2023, 4.p.m.

Early Music Missouri presents “Un tas de cordes: String Music from the French Court,” an intimate concert of string music from the courts of Louis XIV and Louis XV. The works for Baroque violin, viola da gamba and theorbo includes pieces by Marin Marais, Jean-Marie LeClair and Georg Muffat. The period performance duo Musicke’s Cordes (Samuel Breene, Baroque violin & Jeffrey Noonan, theorbo) will be joined by viola da gambist Sarah Biber.


Art of Listening

Miguel Espinoza Fusion

Miguel Espinoza Fusion, the collective beating heart of world-class musicians Miguel Espinoza (guitar), Dianne Betkowski (cello), and Randy Hoepker (bass) invites the listener into a rich and colorful symposium of musical traditions. Firm roots in flamenco, classical, and jazz are woven through with North African rhythms, Celtic whimsy, and Brazilian expressions for a sound that is transformative, vibrant, and deeply emotive. Miguel Espinoza Fusion are the 2019 winners of Denver Westword Magazine's Best of World Music.

Robert Satterlee Piano Recital

Pianist Robert Satterlee has developed a reputation as an accomplished and versatile solo recitalist and chamber musician. Satterlee was appointed in the fall of 1998 to the piano faculty of Bowling Green State University in Ohio.  He teaches at the Interlochen Arts Camp and the Interharmony Festival in Europe in the summer.
